Founded by entrepreneur Kevin Rose, Charity: Water is a nonprofit organization that focuses primarily on ending the current water crisis in many underprivileged corners of the world by “bringing clean and safe drinking water to people in developing countries.”
How do they choose a location to aid? Charity: Water and their partners select countries based on geography and assessments of need. For example, the organization has already made an impact in Haiti, Honduras, Uganda, Malawai, India, and Cambodia.
Charity: Water then decides what project to implement, based on the community’s environment. Technologies used in their projects include wells, rainwater catchments, piped systems, water purification systems, and BioSand filters. These instruments produce safe drinking water from natural resources, bringing the community better health, a better economy, and education. So far, Charity: Water has completed over 4,600 projects.
One of the most notable aspects of this organization is their 100% model. Since its establishment, Charity: Water has promised the community that 100% of their donations would go “directly to the field to fund water projects.” That is one bold and reassuring promise.
Charity: Water has developed a program in which donors can pledge annually on their birthday. When the big day is near, you will be reminded to start a fundraising page where you can ask your friends and family to donate to the cause in lieu of a birthday gift. Over 40,000 people have already pledged. Giving back..what a great way to celebrate!
