Donovan Frankenreiter is an American musician who hails from San Clemente, California. An avid and talented surfer, he truly lives the gypset life. He signed a sponsorship deal with Billabong (Australian surf company), and he was able to travel the world and hit the greatest surf spots along the way.
When surfing in Oahu on the North Shore, he rented a room from the parents of Jack Johnson, with whom he later became life long friends. Johnson released Donovan Frankenreiter’s self-titled debut album in 2004 under Brushfire Records (through Universal Music).
Frankenreiter’s musical talents landed him gigs in multiple bands that were flavored with a 70’s rock style, often performing covers of The Rolling Stones, Van Morrison, and the Allman Brothers. Later, he went on to create solo projects with more of a beachy vibe. These tunes are the feel good tracks of summertime and trigger visions of everything that makes summer great: the sun, the sand, and the sea. His track “Free” embodies the laid-back Hawaiian style we all crave this time of year. His lyrics are simple, and they hit on what we’re all looking for: “Life, Love, and Laughter” (the name of one of his tracks).
