Now this is my idea of a cool ride. With choices from beach cruisers to traditional frames and choppers, Masterworks Wood Bicycles are art you can ride. The company is based in San Jose, California, where the founders hand craft bicycles that are made completely from wood (with the exception of the chain and hubs, which are made of chrome).
Being environmentally conscious, the wood used to build these bicycles have been selected from local forests. When possible, wood is selected from the inventory at The Green Sawmill in San Mateo, California. At the Green Sawmill they recover and mill trees from local Bay Area communities using urban wood sources such as dismantled homes and buildings and lumber from tree removal, etc.
The founders of Masterworks Wood Bicycles, Bill Holloway and Mauro Hernandez, really enjoy and like the idea of giving these trees a new lease on life. This sentiment dates back to the very first models made from reclaimed wood. Two years later their company is thriving.
The Masterworks bikes are totally customizable, and you can help design your own. You can even have your name or logo carved into the frame! There is no shock absorption built in, because the bike relies solely on the wood’s natural flexibility for a smooth ride– perfect for whereever your cruise may take you.
