Gypset Lifstyle ~ Le Cap Horn

Le Cap Horn is a fabulous restaurant in Courcehvel 1850, and it has been included in the Telegraph’s list of the top ten mountain restaurants in the world. This delectable restaurant serves seafood at 2000m altitude not typical of most mountain top restaurants. In addition to a 300-seat dining room, there are numerous private rooms if you choose a smaller group with which to dine. Not only will you enjoy gourmet food and an extensive wine list (among the best in Courchevel), but the people (celebrity) watching is great too!

The main dining area is decorated in a nautical theme, much like the private Yacht Club (members only) lounge situated upstairs. The choice of a nautical theme is a nod to the owner’s summers spent in St. Tropez–which is probably why it is knowas the mountain Nikki Beach. If you choose to dine outdoors on the sunny terrace, you can eat your meal while watching the occasional plane (pilots need to be exceptionally skilled to land on this airstrip as it is known as one of the most challenging in the world) and helicopters land at the Altiport.

Menu options are dominated by seafood. Some of the more popular culinary options include Le Panier Rouge (Canadian lobster, crab, Dublin Bay prawns and pink shrimps for two), oysters, and spiny lobster with coral butter (a sea urchin cream sauce). If you are not a seafood lover, you can still choose from menu options like roast chicken or Black Angus beef. While you dine, you can also enjoy music being spun by the DJ. For the best scene, visit the terrace after 2 p.m. for some après ski cocktails, eats, and dancing. The snack bar and pizza oven are perfect for those looking for an afternoon snack.

If you plan to visit Le Cap Horn for some après ski eats, make sure to bring your credit card. While the food is delish, it can also be quite pricey! A pizza can set you back up to more than €30 ($41). But don’t worry, it will be worth it! For any skier, this is an experience not to be missed.
