Gypset Style ~ Burberry Autumn/Winter 2014

Last week at London Fashion Week, Burberry unveiled their Autumn/Winter 2014-2015 (the Bloomsbury Girls) ready to wear collection. I was so excited to see that this collection evokes some serious gypset style, full of flowing dresses with artistic prints. While many of the dresses and scarves were light and airy, the colors reflected deeper hues (think earthy tones).

British models Cara Delevingne and Jourdan Dunn led the parade of models down the catwalk of the Prosrum show. Many of the models wore the collection’s trademark flowing dresses (many in prints that resembled watercolors) and scarves fashioned into dresses, accompanied by shawls with geometric prints, ankle booties, and the brand new Bloosmbury bag.

One of the highlights of the show was the debut of the Bloomsbury bag, a hand-painted leather and suede handbag. In fact, Burberry Designer Christopher Bailey ensured that every piece that went down the runway had hand-painted details, including the shawls, coats, dresses, and handbags. In the words of Bailey himself: “It was the idea of going back to things I loved — Duncan Grant, Vanessa Bell and Virginia Woolf, and Charleston, the house where they painted everything that moved,” said Mr. Bailey.

Each model had the initials woven into their shawl!

Bailey wanted to show a departure from the digital age, so his show was a nod to the hand-crafted artistry of years past. To see an in-depth look at the design, concept and movement of these gorgeous pieces check out a very cool video of the runway show HERE.
