The beauty of gypset style is in the harmony between unique, effortless pieces coupled with sophisticated textiles and modern prints. J. Crew has come out with a new gypset-inspired line that I think displays this delicate balance of unique details in its flowing tops, entwined with sleek, contemporary takes on patterned clothing and accessories.
This geometric print featured on these chino shorts named Roller Girl has been a recurring motif for J. Crew ever since the team uncovered a photograph from the 70’s of an effortlessly cool girl wearing this black and white print while on roller skates. These shorts are made with a lightweight cotton that is comfortable enough for travel.
J. Crew also embraces the wanderlust theme with their Moroccan inspired short-sleeve beaded sweater. This top is covered rhinestones, sequins, beads and tape yarns that gives the sweater an incredible, handmade texture. It also has a deep V-neck, giving this Moroccan sweater a modern twist.
This invitation clutch has a unique diamond sequence woven from straw and leather. There is also a chain link shoulder strap tucked away for when you need that extra hand to show your passport or to sip your aperitif. This bag looks great new, but looks even better well-traveled. It also has enough space for smaller essentials you may need along for your trip.
This thistle print collarless shirt is flowy, lightweight, comfortable, and sexy all in one. The deep V-line gives a carefree touch to an otherwise serious black-and-white color scheme. The idea for the thistle print came from a sundress that was worn in the 1970s.
This true to size textured graphic tunic is embroidered with sequins and trimmed with pom-poms; it has a loose, airy flow to it that allows for the freedom of movement that gypsetters desire. This specific top was inspired by a beautifully detailed sari one of the designers brought back from India.
Our final summer must-have taken from the J. Crew collection is this lace-trim top inspired by an embroidered vintage tunic– pulled from one of the designer’s closet. The top is flowing enough to be considered gypset, with trimmed inset lace to give it a sophisticated jet set appearance.
