Gypset Style ~ James Colarusso’s Jewelry

James Colarusso is a talented artist with a taste that can be described as solid, personal, and timeless. His art is on permanent collection at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art and at Pittsburgh’s Museum of Modern Art. He has enjoyed affiliations with the Bess Culter Gallery in New York and the Zola/Lieberman Gallery in Chicago.

Colarusso is also a jewelry designer, and he sells his pieces at his self-titled store: James Colarusso (it’s located in the Meatpacking District) and at Love, Adorned, a boutique on the Lower East Side of New York City.

I love how his beautiful jewelryis inspired by nature and evokes true gypset style. Interpretations of shark teeth, skull and cross bones, thorns, antlers, and arrows are used throughout his entire collection. He also uses the number thirteen often, which is seen as lucky by his Sicilian ancestors.

He isn’t just a jewelry designer, but he is a super DIY guy who works with wood, sculpts, and designs furniture from his carriage house in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.

These are beautiful pieces! They remind me of the rebellious jewelry I wore in highschool, with some class and sophistication. A bit of “edge”, but still so feminine! Thanks for sharing!
