When we recently visited the island of Mauritius in the Indian Ocean off of Africa for my good friends’ and gypsetters’ wedding, we arrived in true gypset travel style…with no place to stay. While we searched the island, we stumbled upon the Beachcomber Paradis— a true gem. The Beachcomber Paradis is located on the southwestern part of the island, a beautiful and lush area teaming with tropical flowers and exotic creatures.
The grounds at the resort are equally as impressive. And of course there is the legendary Mauritian hospitality which started with a refreshing and welcomed cocktail in the lobby as we discussed our room options, all of which are on or just a very short distance from the beach.
Upon my arrival on the island I came down with a cold, no doubt from our 12 hour flight from the UK. I couldn’t have felt more at home and relaxed to nurse myself back to health. The staff went out of their way to make sure I had everything I needed.
After spending two beautiful days on Mauritius, we decided to take a quick 3 day trip over to the nearby island of Reunion to check out the surf before the wedding. The only problem was getting our plane tickets. The staff at the Beachcomber Paradis went above and beyond to book a flight for us, which turned out to be quite a challenge because of the time of year and the short notice. But, this is a staff that in my opinion can meet just about any request you ask. We couldn’t have asked for better service.
After the wedding we decided to check out the northwest coast of the island which is about a 3 hour drive from the hotel. Having just had such a great experience at the Beachcomber Paradis, we decided to spend the night at another Beachcomber hotel: the Trou aux Biches before heading back to the UK. We had an equally amazing stay there where we enjoyed the breathtaking views and the mouthwatering food.
The Trou aux Biches is a bit newer and contemporary, and equally as inviting and comfortable. As much as I loved the southern part of the island and the Beachcomber Paradis, if you travel to Mauritius when we did at the beginning of their tourist season in October; the northern part of the island sees more consistent sunny and warmer weather.
I am not typically a resort kind of girl, but I have to say I really loved the Beachcomber and everything they offer including the smiling faces, hospitality, the food (more of that in an up coming blog), extraordinary property and beaches, and the gentle spirit of the Mauritians. I will be sure to come back.
