Gypset Travel ~ Generator Hostels

What can I say, hostel traveling just had a transformation. Gone are the days of thread barren blankets and dimly lit corners and bathrooms. Say hello to the Generator Hostels and their cutting edge take on what was once considered the backpackers way around the world.

This group of eight hostels provides gypset travel with new über cool options to spend the night, with rates starting at just €10 per person! The Generator Hostels launched back in 1995 as a family business (in 2007 they were purchased by Patron Capital). After being taken over by Patron, the group of hostels grew from 2 to 13!

After a rebranding initiative in 2012, Generator became the fastest growing hostel group in Europe. This calendar year, they are on track to achieve a record 1 million bed nights! So what sets the Generator Hostels apart from the rest of the competition? One distinguishing factor is their urban design. Each hostel has its own unique design thanks to the award-winning designer Anwar Mekhayech of the Design Agency. I love the fact that each hostel is designed in harmony with its surrounding city: “we aim to respect the soul of the city we are in.” All of the hostels are located near public transport, so that getting out and seeing the host city is easy.

Each hostel has ample social spaces, to facilitate social interaction amongst travelers. These beautifully furnished spaces provide an area to surf the web, chat, play games, read, or grab a drink. Another reassuring attribute of the Generator Hostels is the 24-security and the extremely knowledgeable staff, who is always there to answer any questions you might have.

There are a variety of lodging options at the Generator hostels. You can choose to bunk in a dorm or a private en suite (free bed linens and towels). The rooms are contemporary and stylishly furnished. You will find the Generator hostels in the following cities: Barcelona, Berlin (2), Copenhagen, Dublin, Hamburg, London, and Venice.  In 2014, hostels will be opening in Rome and Paris. Next time you find yourself traveling through one of these cities, I highly recommend laying your head down at one of the Generator hostels.

I can’t believe this is a hostel! It’s a far cry from the only one I ever stayed in on La Rambla in Barcelona. Loudest night’s sleep ever.

Wow. I have to agree with Melissa. This is far from what I stayed in traveling Belgium and Germany 12 years ago!
