The Treehotel (located in the tiny Swedish village of Harads) is a hip and inventive destination for gypset travel; it’s where nature, ecological values, comfort, and modern design are combined to create an exciting adventure. The five “tree rooms” available at this resort are suspended 4-6 meters above the ground with spectacular views of the nearby Lule River valley, miles of forest, and the powerful river.
These five rooms: The Cabin, The Mirrorcube, The Bird’s Nest, The Blue Cone, and The UFO were built in 2010 and were designed by Scandinavia’s leading architects. Each room is unique from its architecture to the custom-designed interior fabrics.
Britta and Kent, the founders of the Treehotel, take their inspiration from the film The Tree Lover, a philosophic story about the grounding nature of trees. In the film, the crew escapes from the fast pace of the urban city to realize their dreams in the unspoiled nature up north.
The Treehotel founders find sustainability and minimal environmental impact to be important concepts for their luxurious resort. Treehotel staff devote considerable resources to finding sustainable construction and energy solutions; their bathrooms have water efficient sinks, the rooms are insulated, and the lighting consists of low-energy LED systems. No trees were damaged in the construction of these rooms!
Britta and Kent’s attention to sustainability and harmony with nature is also reflected in their restaurant on the grounds. They are particular about their produce and ingredients–making sure to that almost all fresh produce is local and organically grown. They change the menu daily, based on the supply and season. You can feast on their wild game buffet offered daily– sample a myriad of meat from a local purveyor including, but certainly not limited to, reindeer, moose, arctic char, bear, and salmon.
