Next time you’re in SoHo, if you haven’t already, you’ve got to stop for a sweet treat at Little Cup Cakes Bakeshop! It is one of my favorite little places for a number of different reasons. Not only are the cupcakes delectable, but the bakery they are made in practices sustainable baking.
In their own words: “We specialize in baking wholesome traditional American deserts, using only the freshest, sustainable ingredients, predominantly sourcing locally, from farms in the Hudson Valley, Catskills, Vermont, New Jersey, and in strides, seasonally, with all baking done in small batches on-site, everyday.” What’s better than that?!
They also have one of the most photographed murals in New York City (see below). This mural was painted by the street artist GILF! a few years ago, as a sort of love letter to coincide with Valentine’s Day. Not without controversy though, for a seemingly innocent painting of hearts, it is titled “To Tehran With love.” When she painted this, GILF! was clearly was making a political statement, using the army helicopters to sprinkle hearts over the city at the bottom of the mural.
